I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into our classroom. My name is Ms. Michelle Consalo and I will be your child's kindergarten teacher. This year your child will complete one of the most important milestones in his/her life; attending their first year of school. Rest assured that I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve their academic goals.
With regards to my background and qualifications, I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the youngest of six children. Prior to teaching, I was a dance instructor as well as a dancer at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Masters in Literacy and Language with a teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) endorsement, from Touro University.
As for my philosophy for learning, I believe each child is unique and learns in a different way. One of my priorities as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively and learning through music and movement. Your child will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social skills.
Academics are not only for the classroom, but for home as well. I strongly encourage a great deal of reading to your child as well as review of the days lessons. Developing a love of reading is paramount to a child's educational future, and I view reading to your child as a priority. We have a great selection of books in our own classroom available for students to check out.
Lastly, in order for your child to achieve their maximum academic potential, good communications between parent, teacher and student is essential. One of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you.
